You are responsible for everything in your life.
The good and the bad. You are responsible for ALL of it.
This doesn’t mean that things don’t happen. They do—that’s part of life.
But it does mean that YOU are responsible for what you do in response to the events in your life.
We grow up conditioned to blame others for how we feel. “He made me feel…”
But that’s not true.
No one can make you feel anything. Others can do things, they can even do things to you, but they can’t make you feel anything.
You choose how you feel in response to what they did or didn’t do.
If you’re blaming someone else for how you feel then you’ve handed your power to change the situation over to them.
Take your power back by taking responsibility for how you feel.
Likewise, no one can make you do anything.
Others can ask, request, even demand that you do something but ultimately it’s up to you whether you do it or not.
You and you alone are the one who determines how you feel, what you think, and what you do.
I love this Harvey Specter quote from Suits…
“What are your choices when someone puts a gun to your head?
You do what they say or they shoot you, right?
Wrong!
You take the gun. You pull out a bigger one. Or, you call their bluff. Or, you do any one of a hundred and forty-six other things.”
It’s a bit cocky, a bit funny. But underneath it’s about taking responsibility. Not simply sitting back and saying “oh well, I had to he put a gun to my head” but choosing not to be the victim.
Now, let’s put that into something a little more relatable.
What are your choices when your business isn’t making the money you want?
Blame the economy? Make excuses for why you don’t have the time, skills, know-how, support to be successful?
NO.
You take responsibility.
You prioritize your business and make the time.
You research and learn the skills you need (and let’s be honest here everything you need to know can be found on Google these days if you’re willing to look for it).
You implement.
You fail.
You make mistakes
You learn.
You implement some more.
You ask for help.
You stop accepting excuses for why you are where you are.
You start believing in yourself.
You choose to believe that you have the ability to figure it out.
You stop waiting for someone to come in and rescue you.
You take back your power and do what it takes, no matter what it takes until you get the results you want.
That is taking responsibility.
And when you take full responsibility, everything changes.
Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
