The Thoughts You Think and The Beliefs You Believe

Who are you? text vertically along a photo of a woman standing on a beach looking skywards with the text journaling prompts for uncovering who you are below

Remember that those thoughts you’re thinking and the beliefs you’re believing are a choice.

They are a choice—your choice.

If the thoughts you’re thinking and the beliefs you’re believing aren’t serving you then you can choose differently.

You can choose to think new thoughts.

You can choose to believe in new beliefs.

It’s so fucking easy to forget this when we’re caught up in the discouraging, overwhelming, disheartening feelings of those old thoughts and beliefs.

When you’re all caught up in the emotional drama of craptastic thoughts what do you do?

First, acknowledge it.

So often we don’t even acknowledge that something funky is going on. We’ll come up with all kinds of creative excuses and ways to numb ourselves instead of addressing the issue.

And the issue is NOT anything external.
The issue is a thought.

So, breathe and notice that what you’re thinking is making you feel bad.

Got it?

Good, next get curious.

What are you thinking?

Now watch out for general or vague statements. It’s an avoidance method your mind will use and it’s pretty damn effective if you aren’t demanding specificity.

Get specific about the thoughts and write them down. Write them down.

There is tremendous fucking power in journaling. Do it 😉

Alright, you’ve noticed you’re thinking thoughts that don’t feel good, you’ve gotten specific and written them down.

Now, question those fuckers!

They’re just thoughts.

Get curious about them.

Question them.

Break them apart.

Is that thought you’re thinking true?
Are you absolutely 100% sure it’s true?

If your best friend had the thought, would you still believe it?

Is there any evidence that shows it’s not true?

Whose voice is saying it in your mind?

Bring curiosity to your investigation and leave any judgments at the door.

Know that every thought you have is just one perception, it’s one possibility. And no thought is every 100% true.

Those thoughts you’re thinking are a choice. When you notice that they don’t feel good you can choose a new one.

So, what do you WANT to think? What do you want to believe?

It’s a choice.

Write down what you do want.

Write down those new thoughts that feel amazing.

Affirm the fuck out of your new thoughts. Repetition matters.

That old thought has been repeated thousands, millions of times. Its pathway is well worn. Now it’s your job to do the same with the new thought.

Write it down.
Say it.
Write it.
Write it again.
Say it.
Say it again.
Write it.
Write it.
Write it.
Say it.

Are you getting what I’m putting down? You’ve got to think the new thought, write it and speak it deliberately and repeatedly.

Affirming it until it becomes natural and the old crappy thought becomes awkward.

It’s a process that is so worth doing.

Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
