We Are Our Own Harshest Judge & Critic

Who are you? text vertically along a photo of a woman standing on a beach looking skywards with the text journaling prompts for uncovering who you are below

We are our own harshest judge and critic.

We judge ourselves for the actions we took.

And we judge ourselves for the actions we didn’t take.

We judge ourselves for the decisions we made.

And we judge ourselves for our “mistakes” and “failures”.

We judge the way we look.

We judge our habits and how we spend our time.

We judge the way we speak, write, and communicate.

We judge the way we feel.

And we judge ourselves for not feeling the way we think we should.

We judge ourselves for not being where we ‘should’ be.

We judge ourselves in countless ways.
And isn’t that just fucking exhausting?

It is and it’s totally unhelpful.

The next time you find your mind drifting into judgmentville what if you paused and asked: “Would I say this to my best friend?”

If I were a betting woman I’d say the answer to that is a resounding ‘NO’.

We wouldn’t judge someone we love the way we judge ourselves.

We’d love on them.

We’d remind them they did the best they could with the information they had.

We’d remind them of their good qualities.

We’d help them see the blessing that came in the “failure”.

We’d be a shoulder for them to cry on.

So, why not do that for yourself?

What if you stopped the continual self-judgment and loved yourself like you would a best friend, a partner, a lover?

What if you gave yourself credit for how far you’ve come instead of berating yourself for how far you still have to go?

What if you gave yourself permission to feel what you’re feeling?

You are human and there is a very wide range of emotions to experience. It’s time to stop shrinking your experience by avoiding feeling what you’re feeling.

What if you just let yourself off the damn hook?

Maybe you’d feel better about yourself.

Perhaps you’d feel more optimistic about life.

You might even feel a sense of inner peace and joy.

And from that place, I wonder what could be possible.

What might you create in your life if you let the judging go and tried loving yourself instead?

Worth considering and exploring, don’t you agree?

Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life. and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
