What are you putting in front of being happy?
There’s a pattern in our society, a belief system that says happiness is the byproduct of getting what we want.
Happiness is something to get to later, after having done or achieved or accomplished.
Think about how you’d complete this sentence
I’ll be happy when…
What are the first three things that came to your mind?
Those are conditions you’ve convinced yourself need to be met for you to be happy.
BUT…
Are they true?
Do you really need them before you can be happy?
Will meeting them truly make you happy?
Do they create happiness or does happiness lead to their creation?
Are you doomed to a lifetime of unhappiness if you don’t get them?
And if you believe that getting the thing you want will make you happy then do you also believe that not having it will make you unhappy?
Think about that.
If you put all those conditions on being happy if you’ve got a list of ‘I’ll be happy when…’, what’s life going to be like in the meantime?
What we’re saying with that belief system is…
Getting what I want makes me happy.
Not getting what I want makes me unhappy.
Therefore, I will only be happy when I get what I want.
Will you ever reach a point in your life where you have everything you want?
Isn’t there always going to be a new desire, a new dream, a new vision?
Desires and dreams are a natural part of being human.
But, if you keep believing that ‘you’ll be happy when…’ then you’re sentencing yourself to a lifetime of perpetual unhappiness.
Do you really want to live that way?
My guess is no.
We don’t want to be persistently and continuously unhappy.
Yet, if we continue to buy into the myth that we have to achieve, do, accomplish in order to be happy then that’s the state we’ll be in.
If we’re doing all of that to be happy, then why don’t we just start there.
Why don’t we start with being happy and see what follows?
Worth trying. Yes?
Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
