What You Focus On Expands. Do You Really Know How Powerful This Is?

Who are you? text vertically along a photo of a woman standing on a beach looking skywards with the text journaling prompts for uncovering who you are below

What you focus on expands.

Where focus goes energy flows.

You get what you focus on.

We’ve all heard these or some variation of them.

But, have you really heard the message?

The distinction between intellectually knowing and having a deep cellular level, a visceral knowing is something I’ve been mildly (or not so mildly) obsessed with the past couple of years.

It’s not surprising that most of us settle for an intellectual understanding when that’s what we’re trained to do throughout our time in the education system.

We memorize math formulas without really understanding why they work or how they’re applied beyond simply plugging in the numbers.

We memorize dates and names of historical events instead of seeking cultural connections and applications to our own lives.

We learn the functions of different cellular parts but don’t understand how the way we live impacts our cells, and our health and wellbeing.

We memorize so that we can regurgitate it on tests and in papers. And then…promptly forget it.

I was really damn good at intellectually learning for the purposes of testing, it served me well in getting that fancy piece of paper that’s tucked away in a box somewhere.

BUT…

It didn’t serve me so well when it came to transforming my life.

Learning with the intent to transform has been a whole different ball game!

Learning how to embody what you’re studying vs learning to repeat it is a different process that produces radically different results.

Let’s go back to the opening line of this article…

What you focus on expands.

You’ve heard it but are you embodying it?

Where is your focus?

Are you putting your attention on what you want to experience in your life, on what you want to create? Or are you bitching and moaning about what you don’t want?

Are you having conversations about your dreams and desires? Or are your conversations filled with gossip and complaints?

Are you seeking the good in the challenges you’re facing? Or are you completely hung up on the bad?

Where is your focus?

Is what you’re consistently putting your attention on what you want more of in your life?

Are the conversations you’re having reflective of the person you want to be?

Do your actions align with your values?

Where are you focusing?

Check-in.

Become aware.

Shift as often as you need to.

And as always…

Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
