We are incredibly malleable.
This is either really good or really bad—depending on what we do with it.
If we spend our time listening to what others tell us about what we should or shouldn’t want, who we should and shouldn’t be, what we should and shouldn’t do, it won’t take long before we believe their opinions as fact.
It doesn’t matter if we initially disagreed with so-and-so’s opinion if we keep listening before we know it, we’ll be spouting it is the truth.
What’s even more fascinating (or potentially terrifying) is that the same thing happens when we listen to our inner critic, our ego-mind.
When we tell ourselves stories like:
I shouldn’t want to have it all.
It’s greedy to want that much money.
I can’t charge for that—it’s too easy.
I have to work harder to be successful.
All of those fear-based, bullshit stories our mind tells us over and over and over again will automatically become our truth—if we don’t consciously choose differently.
We can become trapped in other people’s truths and the fears of our ego-mind. It can go on for years and years and years if we’re not careful.
We’re conditioned to live this way.
We’re told to listen to our elders.
We’re taught to follow the rules (without regard for where the rules come from).
We’re taught to raise our hand, wait our turn, be quiet, good, little children.
We’re taught to go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a good job, get married, have 2.4 kids, buy a house in the suburbs, work 9-5 Monday to Friday, take care of the house on the weekends, be grateful that we have two weeks paid vacation a year.
We’re taught to be “realistic”.
BUT.
What if our definition of realistic is wrong?
What if…
Our elders aren’t living the life we want?
The rules belong to someone who lived their entire life in a deep state of fear?
Our dreams require us to stand up, speak our truth, be loud?
Our dreams require boldness and ambition, not meekness, and compliance?
We don’t want kids?
The idea of living in the suburbs feels like being squished like a sardine in a can?
Two weeks of vacation isn’t enough?
We want to wake up at 9 am and work when we want to?
What if our definition of “realistic” doesn’t match our families? Or societies?
What if we’ve spent so damn much time listening to what we should and shouldn’t be, do, and have that we have no fucking clue what our truth really is?
Then it’s time to sort that shit out.
To shed the opinions of others.
To break free from your self-imposed limits.
To step into the truth of who you really are.
To define success for yourself.
To boldly live your truth without apology.
To be who you deeply desire to be.
To have what you want.
It’s time to do life your way.
Remember, you absolutely can Love Your Life and Live Your Dreams. It all begins within.
